BigCommerce to Shopify migration

For BigCommerce stores moving to Shopify or Shopify Plus, with customer groups, price lists and large catalogs rebuilt properly and your rankings tracked from before launch to 90 days after.

Shopify Partner since 2016. Fixed price, agreed before we start.

The short answer

A BigCommerce store usually takes 6 to 10 weeks to move to Shopify. Larger catalogs, customer groups with price lists and products with more than three options are what add weeks, because each needs a rebuild on the Shopify side. Every project includes an SEO and conversion baseline before launch and 90 days of monitoring after it.

Why stores leave

Why BigCommerce stores move to Shopify

  • 01

The company behind the platform renamed itself Commerce.com in August 2025 and says it is moving from an all-in-one platform to a composable system plugged into outside tools.

  • 02

Live BigCommerce store counts fell every quarter of 2026, from 38,560 in Q1 to 36,394 in Q4 so far, by Store Leads' count.

  • 03

Shopify now allows 2,048 variants per product against BigCommerce's 600, so large catalogs no longer have to be split to fit.

What moves, and what needs planning

Moves cleanly

  • Products, variants and images, from the catalog CSV export
  • Categories, rebuilt as collections
  • Customers, from the CSV export mapped to Shopify's template
  • URL redirects for every page with traffic

Needs planning

  • Order history, exported as CSV and imported with a migration app
  • Products with more than three options, rebuilt with metafields or an options app
  • Customer groups and price lists, rebuilt as B2B companies and catalogs, which Shopify includes on every plan
  • Web pages and blog posts, rebuilt or moved with a migration app
  • Apps, replaced by Shopify apps or Functions

Doesn't move

  • Customer passwords. BigCommerce cannot export them.
  • App data with no export
  • Theme code

How a BigCommerce migration runs

  1. Baseline

Before we touch anything, we record your top URLs, rankings, revenue per landing page and checkout conversion rate. The new store gets measured against this.

  2. Migration

Products, customers, orders and content move over. Every URL that gets traffic gets a redirect, and each one is checked before launch.

  3. 90-day watch

Every week after launch we compare traffic and conversion with the baseline. If something drops, we find the cause and fix it.

  4. Conversion sprint

Once the new store is stable, we test the pages that make you money. Conversion work is what we've done for DTC brands for a decade.

Questions BigCommerce stores ask us

Can Shopify handle products with lots of variants?

Yes. Since October 2025 a Shopify product can have up to 2,048 variants, more than BigCommerce's 600 per product. The limit of three options per product still applies, so a product with four or more option types needs metafields, an options app, or a split.

Do my B2B customer groups and price lists move?

Customer records move by CSV, but groups and price lists are rebuilt as companies and catalogs in Shopify B2B. B2B is included on Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus, so this does not force a Plus plan on its own.

Is there a free Shopify app for BigCommerce?

No. Shopify's Store Migration app lists Square, WooCommerce, Etsy, Wix, Amazon, eBay, Clover and Lightspeed, not BigCommerce. BigCommerce exports products, customers and orders as CSV, and a migration app or a Shopify Partner does the import.
