Magento 2.4.6 end of support: what it means and what to do
The short answer
Standard support for Magento 2.4.6 ended on August 11, 2026. Adobe Commerce customers get security fixes until August 31, 2027. Magento Open Source gets no extended support, so Open Source stores on 2.4.6 are already unsupported. On Adobe Commerce Cloud, Adobe can suspend traffic to 2.4.6 sites from June 1, 2028.
What end of support means for your store
Your store keeps working the day support ends. What stops is security patches and compatibility fixes. A vulnerability found after that date stays open on your version.
That matters most at your next PCI review. Your payment processor can ask whether your platform still gets security updates, and “no” is a hard answer to give.
On Magento Open Source 2.4.6?
You don’t have extended support. Your version stopped getting security fixes on August 11, 2026.
Your options
You can upgrade within Magento or move platform. The right answer depends on how much of your theme and extension stack survives an upgrade.
| Option | What it involves | Good until |
|---|---|---|
| Upgrade to 2.4.8 | Extension and theme compatibility work, plus a PHP version upgrade | May 31, 2028 |
| Upgrade to 2.4.9 | The same work on the newest release | May 2029 |
| Move to Shopify | A replatform. Shopify updates itself, so there are no version upgrades after this. | No end-of-support dates |
How to check which version you’re on
In the Magento admin, the version shows in the footer of every page. Your developer can also run this on the server:
bin/magento --version
Or paste your store URL into our free version checker. It reads the version from your public storefront when it can.

Get a scoped priceWhen moving makes more sense than upgrading
If the upgrade means rewriting the theme and replacing half your extensions anyway, you’re paying for a rebuild either way. That’s usually when stores put an upgrade quote next to a migration quote.
The other trigger is the next deadline. A 2.4.8 upgrade buys you until May 2028, and then the same conversation starts again.
Frequently asked questions
Is my store safe to run after support ends?
It runs, but new security holes won't get patched on your version. The risk grows every month, and so does the PCI question.
Is Adobe Commerce Cloud treated differently?
Yes. Adobe's lifecycle policy says it can suspend traffic to Cloud sites on unsupported versions. For 2.4.6 that starts June 1, 2028.
How long does a move to Shopify take?
6 to 12 weeks for most Magento Open Source stores, and 12 to 24 for Adobe Commerce with B2B or an ERP.
