Magento B2B to Shopify B2B: company accounts, price lists and payment terms

The short answer

Most Adobe Commerce B2B features have a direct match in Shopify B2B. Company accounts become companies and company locations, shared catalogs become catalogs with price lists, and payment on account becomes net payment terms. Purchase order approvals and negotiable quotes are the two features without a native equivalent, and they move to draft orders, Shopify Flow or an app. Shopify B2B runs on Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus, but direct company catalogs, deposits and partial payments need Shopify Plus.

The two systems side by side

Adobe Commerce B2B was built around the company account. Everything else, shared catalogs, quotes, purchase orders, company credit, hangs off that account. Shopify B2B is built the same way, around the company and its locations, so the shape of a migration is familiar. The names change, a few features split in two, and two features don’t carry over without help.

Here’s the map we work from. The Shopify column is verified against help.shopify.com and shopify.dev as of October 2026.

Company accounts become companies and locations

In Adobe Commerce, a company account joins multiple buyers from one business into a single account, and the company administrator assigns roles and permissions to each member. Shopify’s model has one more layer. A company is the parent organization, and a company location is the business you actually sell to in a transaction. Creating a company creates one location automatically, and a company can hold up to 10,000 of them.

That extra layer is useful for US distributors with branches. Each location carries its own tax ID, tax exemptions, addresses, pricing, payment terms and contacts. A buyer assigned to several locations picks one before adding to cart, and checkout pre-fills that location’s shipping and billing addresses.

Permissions are simpler on Shopify. Adobe Commerce lets a company administrator build roles that control ordering, quoting and credit visibility. Shopify has two levels: ordering only, where the contact can buy and see their own orders, and location admin, where they can also update the location’s addresses and see every order placed at that location. Each location can have up to 50 customers. If your Magento roles do more than that, we map them to the closest of the two and note what was lost before you sign off.

Shared catalogs become catalogs and price lists

Adobe Commerce B2B gates pricing through shared catalogs: one public catalog, and custom catalogs with pricing visible only to logged-in members of the assigned companies. Shopify does the same job with catalogs. A catalog decides which products a B2B customer can see and what they pay, and you assign it to a company or a company location.

Pricing inside a Shopify catalog lives on a price list. A price list can apply a percentage adjustment to your base prices, set a fixed price for specific variants, or both. Setting a fixed price on a product applies it to every variant. If a customer is assigned several catalogs that price the same product, Shopify shows the lowest price.

Tier pricing moves to quantity rules and volume pricing. Quantity rules set a minimum, a maximum and an increment per variant. Volume pricing adds up to 10 price breaks per product, applied to each variant, with the price fixed once a break applies. The constraints are strict: break quantities must sit above the minimum and line up with the increment, so we validate your Magento tier tables against those rules before import.

The plan question lives here

Basic, Grow and Advanced allow up to 3 active B2B catalogs, and those catalogs attach to markets, not to companies. Catalogs assigned directly to a company or a location, and an unlimited number of them, are a Shopify Plus feature. If you have more than a handful of shared catalogs in Adobe Commerce, plan on Plus.

Send us an export of your companies, shared catalogs and payment terms and we'll tell you what maps natively, what needs an app, and what the move costs.

Requisition lists and quick order

Adobe Commerce requisition lists let a buyer keep named lists of frequently ordered products, up to 999 per buyer account, and send items to the cart without clearing the list. Shopify doesn’t have a native equivalent of a saved, named list.

What Shopify does give you is two things. Customer accounts let a B2B buyer place a reorder by duplicating a past order, and the quick order list theme section puts every variant of a product in one table with a quantity input beside each, so a buyer can fill a cart in one screen. Shopify’s built-for-B2B theme, Trade, ships with that section.

For stores where reps and buyers lean on requisition lists daily, we add a wishlist or order-list app and migrate the lists into it. For stores where the lists are mostly a reorder shortcut, reorder from order history covers it.

Quotes

Negotiable quotes in Adobe Commerce start with the buyer. They request a quote from the cart, the seller replies with discounts and quantity changes, the buyer can counter, the quote can expire if the buyer goes quiet, and an accepted quote becomes an order.

Shopify B2B as of October 2026 doesn’t have a buyer-initiated quote. Its documented route is the draft order. You create a draft order for the company location, quote a negotiated price that differs from catalog pricing on the line item, lock the prices so later changes don’t touch them, and send an invoice. The customer pays or, with net terms, submits the order.

That covers the seller-initiated half. For the buyer-initiated half, a request-a-quote form that creates a draft order, you need an app or a small custom build. We scope that on the call, because the right answer depends on how many quotes a month your team handles.

Purchase orders and approvals

When purchase orders are turned on for an Adobe Commerce company, every order is created as a PO and can pass through approval rules by order total or by the number of unique SKUs, with company administrators able to bypass them.

Shopify has the PO number but not the rules engine. Buyers enter a purchase order number at checkout and it shows on the order status page. For a review step, you set a company location to submit all orders as drafts for review. Checkout then shows a Submit for approval button, the order lands on your Drafts page with prices locked, and it completes when you create the order or the customer pays an invoice.

That’s a one-step review on your side, not a buyer-side approval chain. If your Magento approval rules are load-bearing, we build the chain in Shopify Flow using the B2B objects, or add an approvals app.

Payment on account becomes payment terms

Adobe Commerce lets a company pay on account against a credit line, with a credit limit, available credit and reimbursement tracking. Shopify’s version is payment terms assigned per company location. The options are no terms, net 7, 15, 30, 45, 60 or 90 days from the order date, due on fulfillment, or a fixed date on individual draft orders.

With net terms, the buyer clicks Submit at checkout and the order shows as payment pending. They can pay early from their account, and Shopify’s plan comparison lists payment reminders, ACH for US stores, and vaulted credit cards on every B2B plan. You can also require a percentage deposit at checkout, and split payment into partial payments per fulfillment, but both of those are Shopify Plus features.

What Shopify doesn’t have is a credit limit field. There’s no number that blocks a net-terms order once a company’s open balance crosses a line. For stores that rely on company credit in Magento, we either enforce the limit in the ERP, which is usually where the real limit lives anyway, or add an app that holds the balance.

What a B2B migration looks like

We export companies, users, shared catalog assignments, tier prices, payment terms and open quotes from Adobe Commerce. Companies and locations are created first, then catalogs and price lists, then contacts, so every buyer logs in to the right pricing on day one. Open net-terms orders are recreated as draft orders with their due dates. Company contacts receive an activation email, because password hashes can’t move between platforms.

Then we test as a buyer from each company tier: see the right catalog, hit the right quantity rule, check out on the right terms. The B2B pieces are where a Magento migration earns its scoping call, and it’s why Adobe Commerce stores with B2B take 12 to 24 weeks on our Magento to Shopify hub instead of 6 to 12.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need Shopify Plus for B2B?

Not for the basics. Shopify's plan comparison lists companies, locations, net terms, quantity rules, volume pricing, PO numbers and draft orders on Basic, Grow and Advanced. Plus adds unlimited catalogs, catalogs assigned directly to a company or location, deposits, partial payments and theme customization by customer type. Most Adobe Commerce B2B stores we see need direct company catalogs, so most end up on Plus.

Can buyers request a quote on Shopify?

There is no native buyer-initiated quote in Shopify B2B as of October 2026. Shopify's documented route is a draft order: you quote a negotiated price, lock it, and send an invoice. A quote request form in front of that flow comes from an app or a small custom build.

What happens to purchase order approval rules?

Shopify doesn't have approval rules by order total or SKU count. The closest native option is setting a company location to submit all orders as drafts for review, which gives you a review step before the order is created. For multi-step approvals we use Shopify Flow or an app.

Will company users have to reset their passwords?

Yes. Password hashes can't move between platforms. Company contacts get an activation email, and we write it with you so it reads like a welcome from your sales team.
